Individuals who are keen to keep up with the latest social networking activity may find printer supplies for a new internet-connected machine come in handy.

The Internet of Things printer from Adafruit is able to hook up to the web using an Ethernet port and can connect directly to Twitter in order to keep users up to date with the latest.

Tweets from people they are following are then printed out ticker-tape style onto a roll of receipt paper, while the maker adds it can be customised to look for hashtags or a specific word.

It may be an interesting project for electronics enthusiasts, with Adafruit noting it will require a small amount of soldering to put together.

The Internet of Things printer is not the only small, web-connected device to be introduced in recent months, as design firm Berg introduced its Little Printer gadget in December, which uses a similar principal.
