This weekend marks the culmination of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a pageant in London on June 3rd.

According to research commissioned by Nikon, people heading to the capital to see the once-in-a-lifetime event will snap 332 million photos – more than the 327 million that were estimated to have been snapped last year at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The photography firm estimated 67 million of these are likely to be shared on social networking sites – 17 per cent more that the royal wedding – with the 1,000-boat flotilla that will be making its way down the Thames the event people are most excited to see.

This will include a royal barge carrying the Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the royal family from Imperial Wharf to Tower Bridge, which Nikon noted should make for one of the most iconic shots of the day as the bridge is raised to allow the flotilla to pass.

It added that due to the size of the procession, which will take 90 minutes to pass wherever people are viewing it from, individuals should have ample opportunity to capture some memorable moments during the day.

Nikon also teamed up with royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who has been capturing important moments for the House of Windsor for 30 years, in order to offer some tips to amateur photographers about getting the best snaps of special occasions such as this.

He noted: “If you don’t get your pictures, you don’t get your memories. Make sure your camera is fully charged and keep it in your hand ready to take a shot as soon as you spot something.”

Users should also take advantage of features such as the ability to take panoramas in order to capture the scale of the event, while people should also consider taking video clips.

In order to get the best results for this, cameras with vibration reduction technology may he highly useful, he said.

This weekend will be only the second time in the nation’s history it has celebrated a Diamond Jubilee, with Queen Victoria the only other monarch to reach 60 years on the throne.
