Consumers across the UK are being placed under considerable financial pressure by rising energy costs.<\/p>\n

Indeed, uSwitch.com warned recently that since many people are "struggling to absorb" price hikes that were implemented last year, a growing number are falling into energy debt.<\/p>\n

The organisation has recommended households take steps to "keep a lid" on their energy costs, possibly by switching to a cheaper tariff and considering what payment options they are currently using.<\/p>\n

But there are plenty of practical steps people can take as well on a day-to-day basis. IT equipment such as desktop PCs and printers, as well as related items including printer ink cartridges<\/a>, is now commonplace in homes across the UK. As a result, these could be a good place to start when it comes to saving energy.<\/p>\n

Jessica Wiener, a digital printing specialist, told Greener Ideal this week that turning off a printer when it is not being used is one simple measure that can cut power consumption and help the environment at the same time.<\/p>\n

This, she said, is one of many "small and mostly painless procedures" a person can take to save money in the home, particularly if they work remotely and have set up an office in their home.<\/p>\n

People who want to improve their green credentials and cut costs were also advised to consider what type of paper they use, as well as how much is going to waste.<\/p>\n

Ms Wiener then suggested consumers invest in a printer that has been designed with the environment firmly in mind and comes with energy saving features.<\/p>\n

"If you have a home office or small business, you might not think there is a lot you can do to go green," she commented.<\/p>\n

"Actually though, every decision you make, every action you take has an impact on our planet. Little things add up."
