Social networking service Facebook has launched a new mobile app that is intended to make sharing photos on the move easier.

The Facebook Camera application is available to iPhone owners and when launched, will show individuals a feed of images uploaded by their friends.

They will then be able to swipe the touch screen to browse through an album and bring up larger versions of an individual photo with a tap of the finger.

Individuals will also be able to upload photos directly from their mobile device, while they can add captions and tag friends before they share pictures.

Editing functions allow users to add a variety of filters to their images, as well as crop and rotate pictures.

The app has been introduced shortly after Facebook confirmed it is set to acquire popular photo editing and sharing app Instagram in a deal worth $1 billion (
