What happens to the empty cartridges we recycle?

The Recycling Factory have a Zero landfill policywhich means that none of the empty cartridges that you return will go to waste.

Empty cartridges are collected, then inspected and sorted to determine whether they are suitable to be re-manufactured or recycled in a UK factory. Only the best quality empties are reused as re-manufactured cartridges.

The empty cartridges are vacuumed and cleaned, making sure no residual ink or powder is left, then critical components are replaced. Cartridges are then refilled and fully print tested before being packed in anti-static bags and protective air bags. All re-manufactured cartridges adhere to ISO standards.

Any cartridge not suitable for the re-manufacture process are sent to specialist waste handlers who crush the plastics and recover any component parts. Recovered plastics are then processed in a facility and recycled into new products like ballpoint pens. Recovered toner powder is incinerated to produce energy.

As you can see, every component is recovered and reused and zero items go to landfill! The Recycling Factory have many certifications such as Nordic Swan and Blue Angel to show that all products are dealt with and re-manufactured in environmentally friendly ways throughout the whole life cycle.
