Keen amateur sports photographers may be interested to hear that printer and ink cartridge maker Canon has signed a deal to sponsor UEFA Euro 2012.

The firm, whose relationship with the continent's four-yearly football tournament goes back as far as 1980, will provide equipment including cameras, printers and copiers for use during the event.

President and chief executive of Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa Ryoichi Bamba said: "We are passionate about the power of image and such an exciting football tournament provides wonderful opportunities to showcase our imaging products and solutions."

The company becomes the ninth major business to lend its support to the tournament, alongside household names such as Coca-Cola, Carlsberg and McDonald's.

UEFA Events SA chief executive David Taylor added he was delighted to welcome Canon on board for what will be a historic occasion.

Euro 2012 will take place in Poland and Ukraine and begins in June of next year, with the final taking place in Kiev on July 1st.
