A new model in the PowerShot range of digital cameras from printer supplies maker Canon could inspire more people to take up photography.

The SX150 IS, which will be on sale from September, features a 12x optical zoom and a resolution of 14.1 Megapixels to help individuals capture sharp images.

Its compact design and easy to use features could make it a great choice for casual users looking to capture key moments such as holidays or family days out, Canon stated.

High-quality snaps should be assured thanks to the company's Image Stabiliser technology, which automatically chooses the most appropriate way to reduce blur and camera shake from a range of seven possible settings.

Other features include face detection, auto focus and the ability to film video in 720p high definition.

Later in the year, photography enthusiasts will be able to purchase another new model from Canon, the slim IXUS 230 HS, which is available from October.
