Many people may like to use ink supplies today (August 19th) to print out their best images, as the date marks World Photography Day.

Created by enthusiasts keen to share their hobby, it was chosen as it is the anniversary of the announcement by the French government in 1839 of the daguerreotype process, which it declared to be a "free gift to the world".

"Each year, World Photography Day has gained momentum and this year, we're hoping to bring photographers together once again with an even larger audience," the organisers stated.

Therefore, individuals are being encouraged to participate by heading out and taking a snap on this date, whether they are a keen amateur capturing a moment that highlights what they are passionate about or a professional looking to get back to basics.

Submissions from individuals across the globe can to be viewed in the galleries on the World Photography Day website.

People looking to purchase new equipment to enjoy their hobby may like to consider the Canon EOS 600D, which was recently awarded the Camera of the Year prize by the European Imaging and Sound Association.
