People using Canon ink supplies to print out their best photos may be interested to hear one camera from the brand has won a prestigious gadget prize.

The PowerShot G12 was named the Digital Camera of the Year in the T3 Gadget Awards 2011, which were handed out this week.

With over 950,000 reader votes choosing the winners across the 20 categories, the event was described by T3 as "the biggest technology prize-giving ceremony and most influential accolade of its kind".

The Canon PowerShot G12, which includes a ten megapixel sensor and 5x optical zoom, was praised by the magazine for the amount of features it manages to contain in its compact design.

Editor Luke Peters stated: "Canon has done wonders to incorporate so much tech into the G12. Matching quality against a good price, it's a winner."

Other successful products at the awards included the Samsung Galaxy S2 – which was named as Phone of the Year – and Microsoft's Xbox Kinect, which picked up the overall Gadget of the Year prize.
