A trio of digital cameras from printer supplies maker Ricoh have been praised for their design at a ceremony in Germany.

The models – the GR Digital IV, the CX6 and the Ricoh PX – received accolades at the iF Design Awards, presented by iF International Design Forum.

Handed out every year since 1953, the prizes are awarded to products from around the world, with the judges studying "not only superior originality and innovation in design, but also … the functional aspects of the product, including ease of use, quality and environmental friendliness".

The GR Digital IV – the latest version in a series that has been in production since 2005 – has been well received among customers for its high-definition results and quick shooting capability, Ricoh noted.

Meanwhile, the CX6 features a large LCD monitor and 10.7x optical zoom, while the PX is waterproof and shock resistant, as well as being compact enough to carry easily in a pocket.

Elsewhere, ink supplies maker Canon also celebrated a successful year, which saw its EOS Rebel T3i, PowerShot G12 and PowerShotSX 230 cameras named among the best gadgets of 2011 by PC World magazine.
