When I take the old cartridge out of the Brother LC100BK, it only looks like one part of this replacement. Does the replacement have a detachable front end that needs to be taken off before installing?

This product is the Brother LC1100BK. If your printer takes the LC1000BK cartridges then this particular cartridge is not compatible with the same printer models. This may explain the difference in appearance.
